Your mom and I were still flying high after reuniting from her long trip overseas, so when we had a wild hair to take a day trip into the hills of Nevada City, it quickly turned into a wilder hair when we decided to just spend the night!

If we're not on the coast, it's old towns with a modern flair like Nevada City which hold our attention. |
We started with breakfast at a place she'd been recommended by our friend Kelley who lives nearby in Grass Valley, the South Pine Cafe. |
The food was excellent! The tiny place was cranking out unbelievable and interesting breakfast recipes. |
It was Saturday and the farmers market was in full swing. |
We got coffee at Curly Wolf, an independent shop with a cool, cozy style to it. Ever since your mom worked at a coffee shop, I've been interested in how espresso tastes in places like this. |
Then we hit up the interesting shops around town, finding all kinds of unique knick knacks. |
...including this costume shop where your mom got fancy! |
When it was a respectable time to saddle up for a beer, we of course hit up the combination brewery and bakery, Three Forks. They really have excellent beer for such a tiny place in a tiny town. |
We satisfied the sweet tooth at Treats, a small ice cream shop nearby. And that's when we decided we didn't want to go home that day, so we started calling hotels in town... |
We ended up in a suite for a steal at the hallmark hotel on the main street, National Hotel. It's a genuinely old place with a lot of original furniture and style, below a truly ancient looking Western saloon. We put the camera down and enjoyed an evening with dinner and then cocktails at a swanky, dim place right down the road. It was so great to have her back with me : ) |
