Your mom and I have really come to enjoy Davis, and once again it's Springtime, which means the town is bustling and active and the weather is gorgeous. It's times like this when we'll take the camera out and wander.
On Saturday mornings the first stop is always the Central Park Farmers Market. Your mom has a soft spot for delicious pastries, and it can be hard to choose among all the options there. |
Whenever the market is on, Central Park is alive with college students and lots of young families. |
The town is filled with pretty walkways like this along the small roads. This is the way from our place to downtown. |
The neighborhoods around the center of the city are older and well established. |
And the streets are lined with cute, unique homes like this one. |
Or fairy tale cottages like this. |
California Springs are wonderful for looking at flowers, as nearly every bush and tree is blooming. |
We strolled down to the Arboretum, a living museum curated by the botany and other natural science students at UC Davis. It's a beautiful backdrop for a walk. |
Your mom captured this great shot of one of the many butterflies taking advantage of all the blooming flowers. |
On one of the bridges across the stream running through the Arboretum, some of the young couples have pledged their love (oh, Spring...) by locking locks with their initials onto this grate. |
We've been through here before but never noticed the many turtles that were out sunbathing today. |
My favorite part of Spring is the return of the Golden Poppies. I love that vivid color. |
Near the end of the trail come some large open area parks where cyclists, joggers, and walking families stop for a break and enjoy the large shade trees. |
And just off the trail is a large ranch operated by UC Davis where horses can be approached. Your mom absolutely adores horses and hopes to find a way to get involved with the equestrian club here. |
Heh, then we stumbled upon a pen of sassy llamas! They seemed a bit perturbed at us hanging out with them. |
This one was either throwing a temper tantrum or covering itself in dirt to stay cool. |
I hit this guy with a great "Your mama..." joke and he didn't have anything to say back, just looking dumbfounded and perfectly dissed. |
And don't forget the birds all around. These smart guys end up everywhere in the tall trees. |
And we strolled back home with all our ducks in a row. |
