Your mom and I prepared for another busy day of exploring art and history at The British Museum with Sam and Bex. It was really great being able to do some of this with friends while we were thousands of miles away from home.

It was a gorgeous day as the unexpected warm and sunny days just kept coming. It was a day for exploring the endless nooks and crannies of The British Museum. |
The British Museum is amazing, and it contained some of the oldest relics we've ever been able to see in any museum we've visited so far. |
This included some stunning exhibits featuring ancient Egyptian statues and carvings. This centerpiece is a statue of Ramses II, who was born in 1303 BC! |
A sarcophagus thousands of years old just made the imagination run wild with stories. |
"Statue of Crouching Aphrodite," the goddess of love, was one of the stunning ancient Roman items. |
One captivating part of these items is how their stories are sometimes enhanced by what happens to them after they are created. For example, there were a lot of beautiful Roman statues which throughout the museum were missing their heads, perhaps because as wars raged on and politics changed where these pieces were held, they might be symbolically defaced when one nation overtook another. |
A real mummified cat from the cat-worshipping ancient Egyptians! |
We relaxed after hours of museum exploring in the nearby pub, The Old Crown, a place recommended by my great friend, Craig. They had been here a couple years before on a European trip. |
We said our goodbyes to Sam and Bex. One day we'll get back to the UK and visit Manchester : ) |
