Your mom and I hosted my sister Shannon this past weekend. She visited from Colorado to help me celebrate my coming birthday, and it turned into a wonderful weekend dedicated to showing her some of the highlights of northern California: Napa Valley, Sacramento, and San Francisco.
| We started off the weekend with a trip to Napa Valley to do some wine tasting. First, we picked up Shannon's friend Jamie, an old high school and Poms friend who moved to San Francisco this year. She took the ferry from the city to Vallejo where we picked her up (it was a little windy you see) and made our way to the valley. |
| My company for the weekend : ) |
| Napa Valley has this opulent feel to it. Everything is luxurious and coifed, and the wine is excellent, of course. We made our way around splitting samplers wherever we could. This is the large tasting patio at the Robert Mondavi winery. |
| Some tasting rooms are much smaller but still very cute and comfortable. |
| The next day we made our way to San Francisco to crawl around downtown. |
| It turned into basically a long pub crawl as we made our way from one watering hole to another without much of an agenda, just hanging out and catching up. |
| Part of the reason Shannon was able to visit was that her boss happened to be in San Francisco on vacation, so she was free this weekend. We met up with him for dinner in China town, enjoying some excellent Chinese fare. Her boss, James, and his boyfriend kept us laughing the whole night. |
| The next day it was more of the same but with Sacramento as the backdrop. Each town really does have it's own feel to it. Of course I played around taking more pictures of beer (I do that a lot these days). |
| It was great just moseying around the town, sharing with my sister some of the places your mom and I have stories to tell. This is The Shady Lady, indeed shady. |
| Shannon and I always trade music when we get together. One of her defining characteristics is her passion for music and her collection is ever growing and eclectic. She always introduces me to some great stuff, and singalongs are quite common in the end. |
