Your mom and I spent the weekend exploring San Luis Obispo with your mom's dad, Grandpa Gene. It was a spontaneous trip that ended up being filled with some awesome surprises!

| I love the scenery out on the open road heading towards the coast. |

| We had lunch at SLO Brewing in San Luis Obispo, which had a really hopping and charming downtown. |

| Then we headed to the beach in Morro Bay, where I cannot help but sneak up on the wildlife to get some photos. |
 |
| We watched as the sun got lower and lower and enjoyed the wide-open beach. |
 |
| Your mom and her dad got some time to enjoy the sights together and get caught up a bit. |
 |
| We made it to downtown Morro Bay in time for sunset, which lit the bay up with some cool colors while we snacked on shrimp cocktail and clam chowder near the docks. |
 |
| We decided at the last minute to get a hotel room for the night and prolong our adventure. We were offered a good deal for a two-room suite with a Jacuzzi tub you mom really enjoyed. |
 |
| The next day we spent more time near Pismo seeing the sights, and your Grandpa Gene absolutely marveled at the beauty of the coast. He'd been wanting to see these parts for a long time. |

| From the pier in Pismo I was able to catch some cool shots of the crowd of surfers going at it in the waves below. |
 |
| We enjoyed the long walk of the pier which stretched far into the ocean. |
 |
| Heading a bit further south, we stumbled upon the recently opened Monarch Butterfly Grove and decided to stop to take a close look at the these awesome little guys. |
 |
| They swarmed into these big groups to hang out. |
 |
| Looking for the sand dunes we stumbled upon this really cute antique store, and your mom delighted in all the little curios sitting around. |
 |
| When we finally found the entrance to the dunes, we learned you could actually drive out on the beach to get to them, and it was quite an adventure driving our car out along the beach right near the surf. |
 |
| While out on the sand, we came upon a large flock of the endangered Snowy Plover, a really cute little bird which quickly became your mom's new favorite. |
 |
| Before heading home from a great trip, we stopped for a quick taste of the beers at Pismo Brewing, where this old hippie played some classic acoustic rock and told us about the latest protest movements. |
