A Night in Lake Tahoe

Your mom and I spent the weekend checking out Lake Tahoe and exploring more of Sacramento on the way back. We enjoyed the climate change, getting a healthy dose of snow and below-freezing temperatures.

We got up early to get on the road before sunrise and were treated to a great sky for our drive.
The area around Lake Tahoe was snowy and the Aspens were losing their leaves, quite a different climate to Fresno.
The lake was quiet for the season, though I'm sure it's a busy one in the warmer months.
We had lunch at Stateline Brewery, a brewpub right on the state-line between California and Nevada.
Then we walked around some of the shops in the area, mostly looking for gloves since we weren't exactly prepared in the winter clothes department.
Later on we had a small supper at the other brewpub in town, a cute one in a transformed house with an awesome selection.
Our car is not used to this kind of weather, but it did well getting us through the snow-packed streets and keeping us warm on the drives.
We woke up early again to check out the lake at sunrise, and it was gorgeous.
There was a tiny frozen beach we found a way to get to.
We enjoyed a really good waffle breakfast at this cute little diner in town, the Red Hut Cafe.
And next door was this little closet of a coffee shop with home-made chai.
On our way out of town, we were stopped and told we needed to put chains on. This is as close as we got on one tire, as it turned out to be a really difficult process for us city folk. Just as we got this far, CalTrans came to tell us they had just dropped the chain requirement!
Your mom got down and dirty, determined to figure those chains out mostly by herself.
Once we made it to Sacramento, your mom found some really cool vintage shops and went on the hunt for some home stuff we've been searching for. This was Fringe, run by a friendly if not a little bit intoxicated "proprietress."
The lady at Fringe told us about Scout, a co-op vintage shop which had some amazing things, according to your mom, including a big collection of classic Chanel clothes in great condition. Your mom was thrilled to take a look at these little shops which almost feel like museums.
Before heading home, we grabbed a crepe at Crepeville. "Midtown" Sacramento, as it's called, turned out to be a really charming place. With some of the changes to my job coming up, we may be living close by before too long.
