Cardiff-by-the-Sea for Craig's 30th

This weekend we drove south, down to Cardiff-by-the-Sea, a small surfer town just north of San Diego, where our friend Craig celebrated his 30th birthday. His wife had planned the whole thing as a big surprise party with the whole bunch from college! We showed up late on Friday night, and the look on his face when me and your mom rolled into the kitchen was priceless! Another cool note: thanks to this trip south, this month we traveled both the farthest north and the farthest south we've been in Calfornia so far.

The house we rented for the weekend was beautiful.
One of the coolest features was the rooftop patio, which was splendid in the cool, breezy summer evenings.
Saturday we hit the beach to hang out and play around.
On the way to the beach, your mom bought a hat like this, which then prompted these two to do the same.
The guys played some beach 2-on-2 football. I really wish I could catch and throw better, but I always have a blast playing anyway. I did throw one pass dead on to Craig for a pretty little touchdown, but we lost both games we played.
The whole crew before dinner Saturday night.
Your mom caught this picture of me contemplating. My friend Craig and I are very likely to get into more philosophical ramblings.
Your mom looked beautiful at dinner, as always, and it never ceases to inspire me.
Craig had mixed feelings about this milestone birthday. It's been interesting as all of my friends have started into their thirties and been having kids. It's a new chapter in life, that's for sure.
On the way home we tracked down an obscure little Taiwanese restaurant in the Los Angeles area which features really amazing shaved snow, which is like nothing else I've tried.
It was a madhouse in the place, but we got what we came for and enjoyed the ride home after a sweet treat.
