Trip to a ghost town

Your mom and I had heard about this long-abandoned but well preserved California mining town north of Yosemite, called Bodie. We took a long day trip to see it, winding through Yosemite National Park, traversing a very rough dirt road, and finally arriving well into the evening. This is the kind of spooky history that your mom and I really enjoy, so walking around this town on a gray, misty day was definitely a treat! Then we wound back through the mountains over Sonora Pass during sunset. It was a beautiful way to end a long, fruitful day.

Bodie stays preserved because the State Park Service took it over.
Main Street through the middle of Bodie. Much of the buildings are gone, but quite a few have withstood time.
It's fun and somewhat eerie to imagine the stories and lives that played out in these rooms.
Who lived here? What was it like?
Your mom stands out in this decrepit old house. It was a very interesting experience being in these places.
Much of the products in the old store have been left to give an idea of what these businesses looked like back then.
After we left Bodie, we traveled through Bridgeport and saw some stunning sites of rainstorms brewing over pastures.
Here it's actually getting quite dark, but thanks to a long camera exposure, it looks lighter and the water blurs.
Sunset over Sonora Pass. It was such a peaceful, little-traveled route.
More fun with a long exposure shot, soaking up what little light was left and creating that neat water effect.
