Your mom and I hosted my sister, Shannon, and her boyfriend, Andrew, for a wonderful long weekend. They flew in from Colorado and had a short must-do list while they were here. One thing on the list was to enjoy the beach, so we spent one day in Santa Cruz and a couple days in San Francisco. Andrew hadn't spent much time outside of Colorado, so we made a point to give him decent tour of what our region has to offer!
It was a beautifully sunny and warm day. It seemed like exactly the kind of day you'd want to show someone who hadn't travelled in California before, as it just screamed, "This is California!" |
The arcade near the Boardwalk was going to shut down for a while because some Girl Scout troop had it reserved for themselves. Before that, though, we squeezed in some air hockey, where I miraculously defeated my sister for the first time in my life! |
Your mom made out the ceremonial sand inscription, but we were just a bit too slow, and an unexpected wave wiped it out before we got a good shot of it. |
The waves were big and unpredictable. If you took your eyes off the surf for a few moments, eventually a big wave out of the blue would come up to your knees! Sometimes it would leave a tangle of sea junk around our feet. |

These two are as cute as they come. Andrew is a good man and sweet guy with a witty sense of humor, and it was a lot of fun getting to know him better while showing him around the coast. |
At the end of the wharf were dozens of sea lions looking for spots to soak up the last sun of the day. |
As you can see, they captured our attention for quite a while. |
It was late in the day, but that didn't stop people from surfing, kayaking, and sailing all around the bay. |
A sea lion's butt makes a good pillow, I imagine. |
Most were trying to sleep over the barking arguments of others fighting for a spot under the wharf. |
We enjoyed the sunset while having a drink with dinner on the wharf. It was a gorgeous sight. |
The next day it was off to San Francisco. Of course, we had to show Andrew a good view of the Golden Gate Bridge. This is from the shore of Fort Baker. |
We met Shannon's long-time friend Jamie at Fisherman's Wharf and had lunch before crawling around other areas of the city finding cool places to hang out. This is where I put the camera down, but the rest of the trip was a blast. On Sunday we watched the Broncos play at a cool bar in Lower Haight and did some more walking around, seeing as much as we could before heading back. |
