Your mom and I trekked back to Fresno this past weekend for a couple celebrations. One was a house party at Amanda's celebrating Cinco de Mayo, the other was the third birthday party for Hazel, the daughter of our good friends Marshall and Laura. We were excited about this weekend!
We started in Fresno checking out one of your mom's favorite thrift stores, YoshiNow! We found some cool old vinyl that was being sold off to support the local public radio station. We got a Dean Martin promotional album from the 50s. |
I had bought a new 50mm prime lens for the camera and wanted to test it out. Before we saw any friends, we killed some time at Woodward Park, where some baby geese had recently been born. |
We spent the evening with our friend Carrie, an old coworker of mine before I transferred. We watched the hilarious movie From Dusk 'til Dawn and she showed off some of her new cats. This is Effie, your mom's favorite of the bunch, a "blue point" Siamese. |
This is Carrie and her husband Rob. I sneaked this photo of them while they were examining the new lens. |
After we left Carrie and Rob's, we had dinner with Marshall and Laura at their place before heading to the Cinco de Mayo party. They cooked up some great fried fish tacos. |
The party was a blast! Your mom, April, and Amanda partied hard. Tequila was the drink of choice since it was Cinco de Mayo, but the party was more a celebration of "The Year of the Huss." I'll have to explain that better later... |
Your mom had me draw a "huss" tattoo on her arm, and the idea took off! At least six other people ended up with the same tattoo on various places on their body. This is Joel, another member of the Fresno band Fierce Creatures that we've befriended. Your mom is spreading the "huss" love. |
We woke up the next morning, shook off a little bit of a hangover and helped Laura some with getting ready for the birthday party. This is a "minion" from the movie Despicable Me, one of Hazel's favorites. We all chipped in making these guys out of Twinkies, Smarties (for the eyes), and brown sprinkles (for the hair). |
Laura has a tradition for every birthday party of putting together a slide show of music and photos from the last year of the kids' lives. It's always a touching part of the celebration, and I love that your mom and I get to be a part of it. |
The party was at a nearby park, and over 600 photos were taken of the festivities between me, Laura, and Melissa (Marshall's sister, who's really into photography as well). |
She's really growing up. She's talking up a storm and sounding more and more like a little kid. It's amazing. |
Marshall and I played a lot of frisbee in the park. Somehow I didn't fall after this one. |
We love these guys. It's always a treat visiting them and their parents. |
