Spotting Saturn from Hensley Lake

Your mom's and my friend Dustin was in town from Washington and tonight we took him with us for another stargazing adventure up to Hensley Lake with your mom's astronomy class. This time we got some amazing views of the night sky. It was stunning!

We packed sandwiches which your mom creatively labeled for us. Forever after, she would be known as "Little d" to Dustin's "Big D."
Your mom and Dustin pose with their green tea frappucinos.
The lake area is home to many circling turkey vultures.
Dustin and I do our best high kicks!
There were some powerful telescopes their tonight!
Holding the camera to the eyepiece, we were able to take some photos of what the telescope could see. This is a close up of the curve of the moon, with tons of craters easily visible.
My favorite bit was seeing Saturn! It is amazing to think that millions of miles into space this planet much larger than Earth is out there. Tonight we were able to see it, making the enormity of space a very tangible feeling. What a trip!
