Alcatraz Sunrise Ceremony on Thanksgiving

Your mom and I hit the road at two o'clock in the morning to make it to San Francisco in time to board the ferry to Alcatraz Island and witness the Sunrise Ceremony, a beautiful ceremony performed by a national organization of Native Americans to commemorate the taking over of Alcatraz by the American Indian Movement in the 60s.

We made it just in time to get tickets and get on one of the last ferries. San Francisco looked amazing in front of the sunrise that day.
The ceremony took place right in front of the old watchtower.
It was well attended by a diverse group of people.
The painted evidence of the takeover was still visible. Your mom and I love history like this.
More of the evidence of the occupation of the island.
